Procedure
Install or enable winget on Windows
Ensure the Windows Package Manager (winget) is available via App Installer: check winget, install or update App Installer from Microsoft Store or aka.ms/getwinget if missing, then verify with winget --version.
Step 1
Open PowerShell or Command Prompt and run winget --version. If the command works, you already have winget; skip to the verify step.
Step 2
If winget is missing: on desktop Windows, install or update App Installer from the Microsoft Store (https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nblggh4nns1). Without Store access, download the latest App Installer package from https://aka.ms/getwinget and open the downloaded .msixbundle to install. After first login on a new account, if winget is still missing, run in PowerShell: Add-AppxPackage -RegisterByFamilyName -MainPackage Microsoft.DesktopAppInstaller_8wekyb3d8bbwe
Step 3
winget --version
